Dear ISBM Members, Friends, and Colleagues,

In this newsletter, I am excited to share with you the new leaders and initiatives for the 2022-2024 period for the ISBM. This period represents the time between the highly successful ISBM 2022 meeting in Odense, Denmark (July 10th to 13th, 2022) and the anticipated future ISBM 2024 meeting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Sept 30th to Oct 3rd, 2024).

During the previous two years, the Board has had many discussions about how we can make the society a home for your research. To this end - we developed initiatives that have significantly expanded the Leadership of the society to include nearly 35 students, fellows, and faculty members that will help to meet this need. During the next two years, we look forward to welcoming you to our inaugural training webinars and working groups, to keeping you informed regarding the successes and efforts of our members, and to building our enthusiasm as we move toward the ISBM 2024 meeting.

To all of the current members of ISBM, thank you. We are grateful for your support. If you are not yet a member of ISBM, or are a past member and have not yet renewed, we welcome you to join us. Please see additional details regarding membership below.

Sincerely,
Erica L Scheller, DDS, PhD
ISBM President

ISBM Leadership. The ISBM leadership panels encompass in-training and senior members of the society that are invested in our mission to educate and train clinicians and scientists in all aspects of bone morphometry, to provide a forum for experts to share and develop their research, to set standards within the field for skeletal imaging and morphometry, and to advance novel therapies to support lifelong skeletal health.

ISBM Working Groups.

ISBM is seeking members for the proposed Working Groups (WG) initiative. These groups are open to interested ISBM members who wish to help develop and share key methodologies for bone morphometry research and application. Any level of expertise is welcome. These groups will be organized into key content areas and will work to publish ISBM guideline and statement papers as well as implement training workshops and webinars. Current WGs include:

  • Bone histomorphometry
  • Spatial transcriptomics and proteomics for skeletal tissue
  • Live imaging of skeletal tissue
  • CT-based bone morphometry
  • Advanced imaging techniques for skeletal tissue

If you are interested in joining a working group, please contact Thomas L. Andersen (Thomas.Levin.Andersen@rsyd.dk).

ISBM at ASBMR: Many current members and leadership of ISBM attended the 2022 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research in Austin, TX from September 9th-12th. Newly appointed ISBM leaders convened at Voodoo Doughnuts for an early morning gathering to enjoy coffee, fried pastries, and to discuss strategic planning for the next two years of the Society.
Looking ahead - stay tuned for our first webinar announcements and save the date for ISBM 2024!
