Dr Marotti is director of the Department of Anatomy and Histology at the University of Modena in Modena, Italy. He received his medical degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Padova in Padova, Italy. He received his university teaching qualifications in histology and general embryology in 1967 and in human anatomy in 1969. In 1975, Dr Marotti was appointed Full Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Sassari and in 1978 he became Full Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Modena.
Prior to becoming director of the Department of Anatomy and Histology at the University of Modena, Dr Marotti served as director of the Institutes of Human Anatomy in Sassari (1973-1977) and in Modena (1979-1993). He served as director of the Department of Morphological Sciences and Legal Medicine of Modena in 1994 to 1999 as well as coordinator of the Human Anatomy Section from 1994 to 2002. From 1979 to 1984, Dr Marotti was prorector of the University of Modena.
Dr Marotti was president of the International Society of Bone Morphometry from 1992 to 1996 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Diseases from 1995 to 2000. He is a founding member of the International Society of Musculoskeletal and Neuronal Interactions. In addition, he has been a member of the Olympic Academy in Vicenza since 1992.
